The One-Eyed Scout Player Scouting Philosophy?

Recruiting doesn’t start with stats. It starts with habits..

THE OES SCOUTING LENS

OES evaluates players through four non-negotiables:

  1. Effort – Does it show up every possession?
  2. Defense – Can they guard, rotate, and compete?
  3. Behavior – Body language, communication, response to adversity
  4. Translatable Skill – What works at the next level?

If those aren’t present, nothing else matters.

WHAT “TRANSLATABLE” MEANS

.Translatable skills are the ones that:

  • Survive higher speed
  • Survive physicality
  • Survive less usage

Examples:

  • On-ball defense
  • Off-ball movement
  • Help rotations
  • Decision-making
  • Role acceptance

Flash fades.  Function lasts.

HOW OES WATCHES GAMES

We watch the game inside the game.

  • What happens away from the ball
  • How players respond to mistakes
  • Who talks in huddles
  • Who sprints back after misses
  • Who defends continiously.

WHAT OES DOES NOT DO

Evaluation is earned by performance, not promotion.

  • No rankings
  • No promises
  • No guarantees
  • No pay-for-placement
  • No trainer hype

WHERE EVALUATIONS SHOW UP

Always consistent.
Always honest

  • Live shows
  • Watchlist segments
  • Written notes
  • Film breakdowns
